Home/hangar in Gouna outside Knysna is a structure that includes aircraft hangar, underground reservoir, working areas and a residential component on a pristine farm bordering the Gouna River. The structure was designed to oprate off-the-grid and is self-sufficient in water and heating / electrical requirements. The hangar is positioned over an underground water reservoir, storing 180kl; water is heated with solar panels and a heat transfer sytem in the fireplace. Electrical power is gained via photo-voltaic panels and a wind turbine. Two adjacent 'sheds' underlie the concept; they are then connected and modified by extension and projection of masses and roofing. A tower rises to hold a water tank and serve as a look-out point over runway and the environs. Eaves and windows relate to control seasonal sunlight.
